Ancient capital of the Georgian kingdom - Mtskheta, founded in the 5th century B.C. The history of the founding of the city is deeply rooted in the Biblical era, for this reason Mtskheta is otherwise called the second Jerusalem. It is in this city that the chiton of Jesus Christ, in which he was crucified, is stored. Svetistskhoveli Cathedral was and still remains the center of religious life and the main attraction of Mtskheta. The Cathedral in the name of the Twelve Apostles is the first and main temple in Georgia, the name of which is traditionally translated as "life-giving pillar". It is one of the largest temples in the country and chronologically the first in Georgian temple history.
On the mountain opposite Mtskheta, where the two rivers Aragvi and Kura converge, we will explore one of the country's oldest monasteries dating back to the 6th-7th century—the Jvari temple. Regarded as a masterpiece of Georgian church architecture, Jvari Monastery is intriguing from historical, architectural, and landscape perspectives. It symbolizes the essence of Georgian temple architecture, marking a crucial stage in its intricate history.
